Dooling revealed he had been molested at the age of 7 by the older brother of a friend. He said the abuse changed him forever.
“I told myself, at seven years old: ‘You have to be tough. You have to be so tough that nobody can ever hurt you,'” Dooling wrote. “After that day, I had a huge chip on my shoulder, and [a] huge secret in my heart. My childhood was effectively over.”
PTSD is the silent demon that creeps up every now clawing its way out from the back of your mind where you thought it’d be kept chained forever, but the harsh reality is that it’s a reminder from past trauma. The trauma doesn't necessarily need to come from a war zone, but from sexual abuse, physical abuse, verbal abuse, and growing up in toxic environments, or relationships.
If PTSD is left untreated for many years, it can come back out of nowhere in a self-destructive way that would affect your job, relationships, and all other aspects of your life.
PTSD comes in many forms such as numbness, exaggerated emotions, rage, detachment, inability to sleep, recurring nightmares, and substance abuse. Luckily, with cannabis becoming more accepted in the medicinal and mental health world, CBD products are becoming the preferred route for those who suffer from PTSD.
